McKINNEY, Texas (Oct. 11, 2006) — Historic Downtown McKinney is closing off the streets and opening its doors for trick-or-treaters at the annual Scare on the Square, from 4-6 p.m. on Oct. 31. The fun and fright is presented by McKinney Main Street and the shops in Historic Downtown. Along with gathering goodies and treats during the safe and fun trick-or-treating event, participants can enjoy face painting, hay rides, costume contests, corn dogs, funnel cakes and more. Historic Downtown McKinney will also host a variety of entertainers throughout the evening, including the award-winning McKinney North High School NorthStar Drill Team and a local Blue Grass band. “Scare on the Square is such a wonderful event for the entire family to enjoy a safe and secure environment for children to go wild and show off their costumes while going from shop to shop trick-or-treating,” said McKinney Main Street Director Ty Lake. “This event continues to grow on an annual basis and we anticipate on seeing in excess of 3,000 attendees this year,” Lake added. Many of the Downtown merchants join in on the fun by dressing up for the occasion.“We look forward to this family-fun event each year,” said Cynthia Elliot, owner of Cynthia Elliot’s Boutique. “Everyone on my staff takes part in this particular event by dressing up and handing out candy to the little ones as they come by our store. I have participated in Scare on the Square now for over 11 years, and just have to say it is the perfect place for families to bring their children. With the event being over at 6:00 p.m., parents still have time to fix dinner, bathe the kids and tuck them in for a good nights sleep."
Admission is free and parking can be found throughout the historic downtown area. Visit
