UPDATE

The FBI arrested a McKinney man in Georgia on charges that he intended to cross state lines to have sex with a minor.Federal officials arrested Kelly Brenton Farley, 38, on May 15 in College Park, Ga., on charges of crossing a state line and using a computer with the intent of engaging in sexual activity with a child under 12, according to documents filed in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia.Farley, a former regional vice president with a staffing company located in Irving, had online conversations with a woman he believed to be the mother of a 12-year-old girl, but he was actually communicating with a law enforcement officer assigned to the FBI’s Safe Child Task Force, according to a statement released by the FBI’s Atlanta field office.Farley allegedly corresponded with an undercover agent posing in a Yahoo! chat room as a 41-year-old woman named “Steph,” a single mother to a 10-year-old girl named “Sydney,” according to the criminal complaint. The online correspondence began Oct. 3, 2006, when the agent received an unsolicited contact from “kfcolonial2004,” later “self-described” as Farley. The subject told the agent he had been attracted to younger girls “for a while now,” and that he had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old that he met online a year ago, according to the complaint. The agent and the subject then spoke about making arrangements to meet in Atlanta to have sex with “Steph” and “her daughter” while he was traveling on business. He also sent the agent a picture of himself taken with a Web cam, according to the complaint. The conversations continued both through online chat rooms and over the phone with agents posing as “Steph” and “Sydney.” Farley eventually made arrangements to meet both of them in Atlanta on May 15, according to the complaint. On May 2, agents served a subpoena to Yahoo! and discovered the IP address Farley spoke to the agents from pointed to an Irving computer with the same address as his employer. Agents were also able to match the picture sent from the Web cam to a picture on his Texas driver’s license, according to the complaint. After his arrest in Georgia, Farley admitted in an interview with federal agents to speaking with “Steph” about having sex with her “10-year-old daughter.” He also said he “never discouraged the discussion about sex with minors and that he actively encouraged it.” Agents also conducted a preliminary review of his laptop computer and allegedly found 50 images of suspected child pornography with children ranging in age from 2 years old to early teens, according to the complaint.Attempts were made to reach Farley’s court-appointed attorney, Vionnette Johnson, of Atlanta, Ga., who could not be reached by presstime.
