A light rail line in Frisco could be closer than once thought.

The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday that adds Frisco to a group of cities that will work together to find consultants to create a business plan for a light rail line that would connect the participating municipalities.

The light rail line would follow the existing Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line to connect Frisco with Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Irving and Plano.

The resolution states that the City Council supports the use of the BNSF rail line to provide regional rail transportation to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality and economic development. It also authorizes City Manager George Purefoy to work with the other cities to select consultants to develop a business plan.
